In a Bloggy Mood

December 24th, 2009  / Author: missminda

Just got into a bloggy mood for no particular reason. Happy holidays to everyone! Hope you’re doing well.

I hate playing catch-up, so just to start from today…

I am cleaning house for the arrival of my brother-in-law.

I am looking forward to having a clean house so I can go right back to making cards using my rabbit, Poe as the main feature. I’m going to be making a set of Valentines which I’m going to see if I can sell. The original set will go up for auction.

I am looking forward to the fairy piece my cousin has asked me to create for my niece. It’s bigger than I’ve gone in a long time.

We will be going down to my parents’ house tomorrow after picking up the boychild and opening our presents. I wasn’t really hankering for anything in particular this year. I’m just hoping to enjoy my time off from work.

I love my class this year and I have the perfect team. So, of course that means the principal is out to destroy it all in the new year. More details later.

Smooches!!!

Short Update Post

June 14th, 2009  / Author: missminda

School is over for the year. My new bunny is home. I spent this last week finishing up some short-term work I got for the summer. Yesterday I spent time with my best friend.

This Wednesday I’m going to my Mom’s house to see my aunt and uncle and teach their puppy to sit, lay, shake and roll over.

The week after that I’m going to my Mom’s house for the week to do “art camp” with the kids (and let the hubby have some peace and quiet in the house).

My goal today is to goof off. I also want to create some To-Do Lists for the week (that I promise myself I won’t start until tomorrow).

So….that’s what’s been up with me! The end of school always makes me feel drained.  :)

Rabbit-to-Be

May 14th, 2009  / Author: missminda

My husband earned major points in my best friend’s eyes recently. He was there when she needed a male friend’s point of view and to reassure her that she was making the right choices, AND…when my rabbit passed away, he was immediately behind the idea of me getting a new rabbit. Here he is…

After discussion with the kids, his name is going to be Poe. My last black mini rex was named Chaucer:

Seemed right to give my second one an author’s name as well. Poe just seemed to fit. Poe is going in for a vet appointment on Saturday and then he’ll be winging his way to me some time next week. This weekend I’ll be building a new cage for him and re-bunny-proofing the house. In addition to that, I’ll be doing artwork for all the wonderful people who made it possible for him to come home to me. I’m looking forward to the weekend! How about you?

Star Trek…The New Movie and Old Memories

May 6th, 2009  / Author: missminda

When I was in 7th grade, I had the job of babysitting a 98 year old man on Saturdays. Basically, I sat at the kitchen table for the day, drawing pictures and watching an old black and white television set. The daughter of the man would set out snacks and she had cold sodas in old glass bottles in the fridge for me. I think she had fun putting out little cookies and M&M’s in a bowl and such. At lunch time, I would heat up his lunch and he would walk down to the kitchen from his room. This Chinese gentleman spoke no English, but he would smile at me as he ate. Then he would walk back down to his room and I would clean up from lunch.

I know you didn’t all need to know that, but thought I’d add it in.

The one program I remember watching the most on those Saturdays was Star Trek. This was back when there weren’t more than 13 or so channels on a standard television set, and this little black and white one with rabbit ear antennae didn’t even tune in to all of those channels. Every Saturday, I’d watch William Shatner and his crew battle evil and talk in those crazy stilted tones. It’s a good memory.

When I got to college, one of my roommates was a Next Generation fan. Because of her, I became involved in that program, as well. Until Picard and Troy and Riker were just another part of my daily life.

Going to see the sneak preview of Star Trek last night was like a trip down memory lane. I enjoyed the way they snuck in all of the characters trademark lines. I erupted with laughter and applause when Scotty said, “I’m giving her all she’s got, Captain!”

It has some Star Trek fans irritated, but honestly…I just enjoyed it for all it was and for the smiles it gave me. I needed them yesterday.

My Elf…My Heart

May 3rd, 2009  / Author: missminda

Yesterday I had to put my darling Elf to sleep. She was six years old. She had uterine cancer. Please spay your rabbits if you don’t plan to breed them.

My eyes are red. My face is puffy. I break out into tears every time I pass her cage. I have a miserable headache. There is a hole in my heart. She meant so much to me.
